ATV Park in Canby a Possibility?

Who would’ve thought that a flash flood could have a silver lining in it? But that’s what it turns out to be for those residing in Yellow Medicine County, Granite Falls. Although the plans are unconfirmed ones and authorities are still deliberating on the pros and cons of turning an old gravel pit into an ATV park, we can hear champagne bottles popping open right now.

The potential new ATV part will be some place in Canby and the proposed site is actually part of an old gravel pit that is no longer in use. However, authorities note that mining activities can STILL be carried on in some parts of the pit. So far, the Yellow Medicine Country Commissioners have carried out discussions about the possibility of turning the place into an ATV part with people including representatives from Swift County and the Dept of Natural Resources. There is ardent support for the suggested as Gregg Soupir from the Dept of National Resources says that they wish to create an ATV park for every country in the state.

An example would be the Appleton ATV park which was opened up a couple of years ago and it was also used to be an old gravel pit that was destroyed during massive flooding season. With the pit destroyed, the authorities had the opportunity to start everything anew and they deliberated and approved the plans for an ATV park there. there is a huge need for an ATV park like the one in Appleton as ATV riding has become very popular among the young and old. Furthermore, state parks have begun zooming in on illegal access by ATVs and other off-road vehicles hence, these large vehicles need a place.

At the moment, funds required to build the ATV park will come from the state government based largely on federal grants. Sourcing of funds will be carried out later as soon as a budget and estimate cost of building an ATV park there is determined.

As with all new ATV parks, many people have raised the question about noise pollution because ATVs and off-road vehicles are loud! But commissioner said that there is little to be concerned about as the ATV park will be far enough from main residential and commercial areas. Furthermore, the existence of trees and the depth of the ATV park will help buffer the noise level.

The new ATV park is setting the authorities abuzz because with the new ATV park, the level of illegal usage of national parks for ATV riding will reduce. And furthermore the ATV park can be viewed as a money-generating option for the state because of visits from ATV enthusiasts from nearby regions.

No action has been taken yet at this point in time but the public and the state authorities are keen on taking this discussion to the next level.
