Facts About Drinking WATER And Riding ATV

Facts About Drinking WATER And Riding ATV – Bottoms UP, Folks!

When it comes to riding your ATV out in the open, what’s the most important thing you have to bring? It’s something that you absolutely cannot live without! Yes, you have to bring that ATV helmet along but it’s something closer to….nature. It’s water! I remember forgetting to bring enough water one ATV riding trip and if not for the fact that my friends shared theirs with me and I had the chance to refill somewhere along the way, I would have died of dehydration! Apart from eating proper meals before an ATV trip to ensure that you have enough energy to last you throughout the ATV trip, you have to make sure your body is hydrated. You’ll sweat a lot when you’re riding and this is something we cannot forget. So, today, I am going to just dig into the issue of the importance of water to ATV enthusiasts like you and me.

Water plays an important role in the functioning of our bodies especially when we put a strain on it..like riding our ATVs. Water is a vehicle for processing the food that we eat, transporting all the vital vitamins and minerals to other parts of our bodies, plays a huge role in removing toxic waste from our body AND it is also helps control the temperature of our body. If you don’t drink enough water when riding your ATV, you will soon start making mistakes and misjudge the width of a bridge or forget certain things because when dehydration sets in, your brain cannot perform properly and your body becomes tired. Towards the end of the ATV trip, you’ll feel dizzy and wiped out, don’t you agree? That’s because the body’s used up a huge portion of its ‘water supply’.

I am not trying to be a Physician or Doctor here, ok? I’m just stating facts so that you’ll remember to bring along LOTS and LOTS of water during your ATV trip. Having proper water supply equipment helps tremendously too because it makes lugging around the supply of water during the ATV trip a whole lot easier. Especially when you’re riding in a warm-weathered state in our country during summer! *sweat*

I read somewhere this interesting little fact that might interest you or make you feel the urgency of bringing enough water for your ATV riding trip. The muscles that you use when you’re riding your ATV is ¾ water, the brain is more than 70% water, the blood is approximately 80% water and the lungs is nearly 90% water too! And you cannot ride properly with weakened muscle, half-functioning brain, without proper blood circulation and fully functioning lungs! This is how important drinking lots of water is when you’re riding your ATV out in the open.

I remember one time I went out on an ATV trip with a group of families (mine included) and there were some kids with us. The mothers in the group were having such a fun time that they forgot to remind their kids to drink up their water. At the end of the day, one kid collapsed! The reason was the little kid was having so much fun riding his ATV in the wild that he did not even realize that he was thirsty. If you are bringing kids along with you, remind them to drink their water every other minute or hour. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink up, ok?

Some people bring juice and other condiments during ATV trips and I’ve read some experts advising against that….especially when a person is engaging in sports or other activities like ATV riding. The reason given was that having sugar in the water slows down the absorption. Well, if it’s a sports drink like Gatorade, it’s great then, because these sports drink replace all the electrodes you would have lost while riding your ATV. Here’s another interesting fact about drinking water during your ATV trips….if you can, find a way to keep the water cool….like, maybe below 50 degrees because the body absorbs water faster when it’s cool.

So, for those avid ATV riders, fill your water bottle with either water and some ice into it or fill it up with sports drinks like Gatorade or 100 Plus…whatever your choice may be. Carrying the cold water on your back will also help bring your body temperature down too and you kill two birds with one stone.

Well, I am done being your Physician for today. Happy riding and BOTTOMS UP!
