Pete’s date on the ATV trails

What’s the last thing that comes to mind when you think of when you’re planning to hit the ATV trails? I don’t know about you but usually, the last thing to come to mind is ‘romance’. We’re riding the trails and there’s mud, there are difficult obstacles to overcome, hills to climb and sometimes sand getting into every bodily orifice there is! Why would we, in our right mind, be thinking about holding hands and blowing butterfly kisses into the air?

Well, you know what? It. Is. Possible.

As strange as the whole thing sound, a friend whom I shall call Pete for now, wanted to hook up with this lady friend and since they shared a passion for ATVing, decided to hook it right up on a quickly-planned ATV trip. Going all gooey-eyed isn’t what we’re looking for on an ATV trip and yet, you’ll be surprised with the number of ladies holding their own on the trails these days. Ladies today are hardly those Victorian women afraid to step out of their houses. I have quite a fair number of lady friends who hit the ATV trails as many times as there are months in a year every year.

Whilst it’s never crossed my mind to woo a lady while riding the ATV, this story sort of bugged me a little. Maybe I’ve been riding out with the boys for too long and even if we rode the ATV trails with women, most of them are wives or girlfriends or cousin’s friend, friend’s cousin. I don’t know, romance didn’t even cross my mind even if Miss Angelina Jolie walked past me in her Thor ATV protective garb. Who cares? Let’s get those mud puddles and gravel!

I suppose incorporating romance and a little bit of emotion into the ATV trip wouldn’t hurt…would it? Oh well, Pete’s got a point. Hitting the ATV trail with a potential girlfriend gives you the chance to be the hero too – according to him. He said that many times, his new girlfriend needed his help in getting past an obstacle and I pointed out that maybe it was also the chance for her to play damsel in distress. I bet she could probably outrun Pete any time.

Well, that remains to be seen but since we’re on the topic of women and ATV trails, there was a time we had a friend who looked like a frail pre-teen…a beautiful woman, actually, whom we thought was going to need out muscles to help her around the ATV trail. Actually, she didn’t. Actually, she had such a powerful ATV that she helped one of us yank out a mud-stuck ATV during the ATV trip. It’s sometimes surprising to me, yes, still because once upon a time, ATV riding was a purely male thing. Who’d think of romance? Who cares about the scenery? We want to get dirty! But the scene has changed now.

Judging from what Pete has done, it seems like hitting the ATV trail with a potential mate is feasible. Just let me put aside my Fridge-sized ego and digest that. Although the idea of bringing wives along for an ATV trip is OK with me, running the ATV trails for a first date is still an idea that’s foreign to me. Old-fashioned, yes but hey, the idea is open. If you have someone you want to date and want her to play damsel in distress (hopefully, she doesn’t run you over with her ATV riding skill, though), try having yourself a romantic ATV trail riding holiday with her.

I’ve never tried it and won’t say anything I might regret later but hey, all I am saying is that it worked for Pete, it could work for you too.
