Take the family to Locust Lake ORV Area

Written by Raceway ATV - the #1 kids Kazuma ATV dealer
Take the family to Locust Lake ORV Area Updated: Thursday, 06 September 2007

If you search the Internet, you’ll see that Georgia is a state that is full of ORV areas. In fact, in our opinion, some of the country’s best ATV trails are located in the state of Georgia. But if you have the time or want to plan a family ATV holiday, you will find Locust Lake ORV Area a very charming ATV trail. The Locust Lake ORV Area is located near the Chattooga Ranger District and is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The ATV trail opens throughout the year except for the freezing winter months from January 1st till March 31st.

This ATV trail is perfect as a family getaway because within the 17 miles of ATV trails, you can pick and choose from the many different parts of the ATV trails that range from easy to difficult depending on your skill level. Not only is this a fun place to ride your ATV, there’s lots of picture-taking opportunities as well. As you ride your ATV on this ATV trail, you’ll get to see miles and miles of the best of Georgia in its natural form.

Although the pine trees are extremely scenic and beautiful, what is more jaw-dropping is the North Fork Trestle which is as long as 1,400 feet supported by only 10 piers! Words cannot adequately describe how magnificent the scene is, so, you’ll have to take to the ATV trail to see it for yourself. Locust Lake ORV Area is certainly an ATV trail that you’ll have to take your whole family too at least once.

There’s no real worry about getting lost at the Locust Lake ORV Area because the Georgia Recreational Trail Riders Association works closely with the government in maintaining this ATV trail, so, they can be found along the trail throughout the year working on maintaining the ATV trail. There are many volunteers from the association who would dedicate their workdays and weekends to work on the ATV trail.

The fee for riding on this ATV trail is $5 per day per ATV or if you intend to come back during the same season, just pay $25 for a season-through pass. The fees goes towards maintaining and improving this ATV trail. One thing to note is that there are no restrooms around the ATV trail although authorities say that they are planning to have some built around the trail, so, if nature calls on you, you’re just going to have to go ‘nature’s way’.

And there’s one thing though, there aren’t any hotels, motels, apartments or campgrounds nearby except for Russell Campground and beach, so, you can use that for lodging.

It’s quite easy to get there from Locust Stake Road. Just head towards the four-lane road nearby, take the left and then climb a small hill. Then, you’ll pass some railroad tracks which runs under a bridge. As soon as you see the next paved road, you know you’re on the right track, so, take a left and you’re on Trestle Ridge; go on straight and take a left toward the black top. If you see the turn-around, you know you’re there. If you want to find out more information about the ATV trail, try contacting (770) 554-0940.
