Electric ATVs make great gifts for kids, but they come with some responsibilities for safety that must be learned prior to riding.
The Peg Perego line has a fun selection that was designed with safety in mind.
Most of these electric ATVs have 3 gears : 1st, 2nd, and reverse. Children up to age 8 are the recommended riders for the majority of these ATV products.
First of all, no one knows your child better than you do. Ask yourself if your child is ready for this ATV, some children have fantastic eye/hand coordination at the age of 3 and others just don't develop those skills until later. Although these electric ATVs don't go fast, you want to be sure your child can properly maneuver his or her ATV. Sadly, the majority of the accidents that occur with kids and ATVs almost always could have been prevented by not allowing the child to ride their ATV unsupervised, making sure they were riding in a safe riding area with their ATVs, and lastly being certain the child always wears safety gear. When operating any ATV, electric or otherwise, always make sure your child is wearing a helmet, the younger the child, the larger and heavier their head and there is even more of a need for a helmet.
Do not allow your child to operate an electric ATV at night, they are not made for night time use, even under supervision, there could be something in the riding area (even in your own yard) that could be missed and cause an accident. Additionally, make sure your child knows to never carry passengers on their ATV, it's not safe and it is a leading cause of injuries that could have been prevented.
Electric ATVs can be a load of fun for your child as long as you choose a model made for the child's age/capabilities and give them some basic safety instructions, many good days of riding their ATVs are in store!
