Are you and your ATV looking to spend quality time together? Pool Table Road 600 is a beautiful place to go ATVing and more all year round. This ATV trail is located along 9.4 miles of piney forest in the beautiful Rio Grande River Valley region near Creede, Colorado. The first third of the ATV trail offers some awesome views into the valley, while the rest of the trail takes you and your ATV into timber country.
Although this initial portion of the ATV trail is somewhat remote, it is suitable for cars, and you'll probably run across (not literally, we hope) sightseers taking in the fall colors come September. And be prepared boy scouts, if you plan to spend a couple days ATVing, you'll be roughing it. The sole amenity is a pit toilet!
The going gets pretty rough as you head up the gravel road to the Wheeler Geologic area. You and your ATV will be leaving the tourists in their Volvos back in the dust, but watch out for those logging trucks. We did mention the piney forests, right?
Pool Table Road 600 ATV trails offer year round fun too. During winter, the ATV trail into Wheeler is maintained for snowmobilers so park your ATV. If cross-country skiing is your thing, try some of the horse trails. Snow shoeing, you ask? You bet. But be warned, this is tough country in the winter, and only the hearty and the experienced should even think about attempting to camp overnight. The local Motel 8 is just an ice cave, and believe us, you can't call for extra towels.
Be sure to remember the rules for good ATVing. Be sure you have the required ATV permit, muffler and spark arrester. And if you really were a scout, remember "leave no trace camping"? The same rules apply here. If you bring it in on your ATV with you, bring it out on your ATV when you leave.
