Are you an ATV rider looking for an ATV trail that is fun, but no cake walk? You should give Scotty's Motorized trail a try.
Load up the ATV, and from Sedalia you will travel southwest on Highway 67. Turn left onto Rampart Range Road, another excellent ATV trail, and follow this to FDR 507. Then turn left onto Road 507 and keep going until you reach the beginning of Scotty's Trail #681, which is on the right.
Scotty's ATV trail #681 is a 6.8 mile stretch of road that serves as a connecting route from the ATV trails in the north to the southern ATV trails in the system. Pike National Forest service manages this area and gives this ATV trail an intermediate to expert level rating. You'll need to follow the park's rules and have an ATV permit in order to ride. Be sure you keep it prominently displayed. Mufflers and spark arrestors are also mandatory.
A few do's and don't can help ATV riders be prepared and have a better time on the trails.
Do:
Wear your ATV safety gear.
Make sure your ATV is mechanically up to the task.
Be prepared with tools and supplies for roadside repairs.
Know your limitations. Watch your time, and fuel supply.
Don't:
Ride your ATV while under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
Ride your ATV alone on the trails.
Ride you ATV in wetlands and marshes.
Trespass on private property. Just stick to the trail.
Common sense goes a long way when you are planning an outing on your ATV. It's a terrific sport that offers the opportunity to see areas of the wilderness that just wouldn't be available to you with a passenger vehicle. Do your part to keep ATV trails open and available for all of us.
