The ATV trail in Knoxville/Red Elephant Mine,attracts many OHV (off-highway vehicle) enthusiasts each year.It offers 17,700 acres of steep, rolling hills, with plenty of untamed scenery.
The directions for Knoxville are from the town of Lower Lake. Start on Morgan Valley Road to the McLaughlin Mine where it becomes the Knoxville-Berryessa Road.Then southeast of the mine crushing plant,go 13 miles from Lower Lake, and the entrance is right there, for all ATV riders.
The OHV trail is about 8 miles long,where it winds around two watering ponds. It is here, you will hopefully see, some wildlife.ATVing can be such a wonderful sport, in that the beauty and scenery you get to take in is wonderful, along with the excitement of the run.While ATVing on this trail, you come across a steep downhill section, that leads to a narrow ridge top. Here it overlooks grasslands and streams. The ATV trail continues through a stream crossing, then back up a very narrow section that leads you to a series of switchbacks.It is here you get to see the Red Elephant mine with eagles soaring and the most breathtaking view that you will never forget.

Make sure the ATV is in good mechanical condition. Check the tires and make sure the pressure is good.Check the oil, plugs, and of course the gas.
Your apparel is crucial, helmet, goggles, gloves and boots, are your basic ATV wardrobe.Long sleeves and long pants wont hurt either.
Never, ride alone, partner up with someone. Never go ATVing without some form of communication devise, such as a cell phone or walkie talkie.
