Oregon is a place of pristine beauty and it has some wonderful trails to ride your ATV on. A lot of irresponsible behavior from some ATVers has resulted in some premature terrain damage and has led to the closure of many trail systems.
In Oregon, the tax that is paid for fuel and the revenue from OHV permits, pays for the maintenance of the State OHV systems. In this way the ATV trail systems are paid for by the users of those trail systems
The best way you can help maintain trail systems in Oregon is to ride responsibly. Ride with respect and care to the ATV trails. You can do this by staying on the designated ATV trails, pack out your own trash and be responsible when and where you camp. Ride only where you are permitted to ride and respect private property.
Helping to preserve the lands you ride your ATVs on and especially wet areas and streams through treading lightly is a must for land conservation practices. If you must cross water, ride carefully and only at designated spots.
Another thing you can do is respect the wildlife in the areas that you ride your ATVs, when they flee from you, they use valuable energy reserves, try to always view them from a distance whenever possible.
Tread lightly and to that is really easy to remember as put forth by the fine folks at Tread Lightly:
Travel and recreate with minimum impact
Respect the environment and the rights of others
Educate yourself, plan and prepare before you go
Allow for future use of the outdoors, leave it better than you found it
Discover the rewards of responsible recreation
By doing this the ATV trails in Oregon will be maintained and ready for future generations of ATVers to enjoy!
