The Rubicon in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is a great place to ride your ATV. This is one of the most well known and traveled trails in the world. It is also one of the most difficult. On a scale from one to ten, it is a solid ten.
If you don't have experience driving your ATV on hard to manage terrain, this is not the ATV experience you are looking for. Elevations average 6-7,000 ft. The climate is typical of its location in a high mountainous area as the temperatures may be hot during the day and freezing at night.
The scenary is absolutely spectacular, but keep an eye open, you will be definitely be dodging boulders as rolling rocks are a very common occurrence.
These are multi-use trails and you will encounter a lot of other traffic such as mountain bikers, other ATV's, and backpackers as well. The ATV trail itself can be completed within two days but taking three so you don't rush and you get to take in the beauty of the area is wholeheartedly recommended.
A great place to camp before you get going on your ATV riding tour of this area is at Bassi Falls off of Icehouse Rd. The Bassi Falls entrance is unmarked so you will need to get directions from the ranger station.
Please note if you're going to camp out and you plan on making a fire of any sort, you need to obtain a fire permit. They are available at the ranger stations and free of charge.
This is an awesome trail system to ride your ATV on if you're experienced, you will be guaranteed the best ride of your life!
