Have you ever heard of the ATV Rider's Code? It is a small grouping of good ideas that insure safe riding for new and experienced ATVers. The ATV Rider's Code reads:
*Know your operators manual. Know your machine and what it can and can not do. You should know the basics of how it works prior to riding to insure you are not a danger to yourself or others.
*Do a pre-ride check. Since you know your ATV, you know what to check before you ride, make sure no parts are showing wear, broken, or about to break.
*Make sure that you are wearing a DOT or Snell approved ATV riding helmet and eye protection.
*Take an ATV riding course. No matter how long you've been riding, you can learn some valuable safety tips and unlearn from unsafe practices you may have fallen into.
*Ride with others and don't ride alone. But by the same token, don't carry passengers on your ATV.
*Be courteous and respectful of other ATV riders and the rules of the area in which you are riding. This includes observing noise rules and keeping riding areas litter free.
*Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol and never ride with anyone who is.
Just following these simple rules can keep your rides safe and fun for everyone that loves riding their ATV. Use the ATV Rider's Code and if you have a friend that rides, make sure they know it too.
