North Carolina has a lot of great places to ride your ATV. Best of all, ATVing is a sport the entire family can enjoy. You can take the kids along for the ride, or if you and your favorite someone want to spend a weekend touring the lush forests and enjoying a little time for two, ATVing is a great way to do it.
If you want to be to the letter of the law (and you do) for riding your ATV in North Carolina, there are a few rules and regulations you need to be aware of. You do not need to register your ATV with the State and there is no current minimum age for riding an ATV. However, all riders must wear a DOT approved helmet and eye protection at all times.
North Carolina has four National Forests that allow ATV riding. They are the Croatan, Nantahala, Pisgah, and Uwharrie National Forests. There are miles and miles of trails to ride your ATV upon. Stay on the designated trails and always get a current map from the Forest Ranger's Office to make sure you're planning your ride around the most current information. Periodically ATV trails are closed to allow areas of vegetation to reclaim themselves and allow new growth, and new trails are opened for ATV riding during these times. This keeps the trail systems renewed at all times and also you aren't riding the same old trail.
North Carolina also has some great ATV groups if you don't have a group to ride your ATV with, join up and make some new friends and make a weekend out of it. The ATV Adventure Club at https://communities.msn.com/adventureatvclub will have some great riding fun in store for you and you can also try the Carolina Copperhead Club at https://home.earthlink.net/~me4guns/index.html .
Join a group and make some new friends. The ATV trails are ready and waiting for you in North Carolina!
