This fun ATV excursion is located on Lookout Mountain in Cherokee and DeKalb Counties, east of Fort Payne, Alabama. This is a fairly busy area. Approximately 300,000 people visit this park every year primarily between April and October. Visitation is the highest April through June, September and October, lowest attendance is in January.
The summers are warm and humid. The winters are cool but normally not frigid. Both spring and fall are mild, making this ATV ride a great destination anytime of year. There are no fees to ride your ATV in this area, however you will need to register your ATV with the NPS Ranger and you will have to show a valid driver's license. The permit must be displayed on your ATV at all times. Your ATV will be checked for proper braking, spark arrestor and noise muffler and then if your ATV passes the test, you will be issued a permit to ride the trails around Little River Falls.
The forest is thick and there are a lot of great sites to take in on your ATV ride through Little River Falls. The falls are definitely picture-worthy and will be flowing with even more beauty if it is soon after a rainstorm. If you're looking for someplace to picnic and camp, you can set up camp with your ATV riding buddies at Canyon Mouth Park which has barbecue grills, picnic tables, a pavilion, bathrooms, wading, hiking, fishing (if you have a license). Best of all this area is free.
