Alabama has a hidden jewel in the middle of Alabama ATV country and Bankhead OHV park is it. This is a great place to ride your ATV. This park's ATV riding area is rated as easy and this is a great place to bring anyone new to the sport of ATVing. They can put into practice their safe riding skills and manuevering skills they learning in their safety classes. This will help build confidence in their riding and handling skills and a confident rider is a safe rider.
The Bankhead OHV Park is maintained by the Bankhead National Forest and as with all National Forest Lands, make sure you have your state approved ATV permit clearly displayed on your ATV and you must have a muffler/spark arrestor installed on your ATV prior to riding these trails. There are maps available at the Ranger's office and it is recommended you plan your ride on the most current map available as trails are closed periodically for land conservation efforts. The ATV trail isn't that long with only a total of 16 miles consisting of an 11 mile loop and a 5 mile loop, it's a little rocky in some places but lots of sand in others. It's a great place for newer ATV riders to learn different terrain techniques.
These ATV trails are updated with bathroom facilities with easy access to the ATV trailheads. This is a great way to spend a day with your ATV buddies or make it a full weekend and enjoy some primitive camping. The ATV trail can be looped around several times and even though newer ATV riders will get the most out of this OHV area. Seasoned ATV riders will enjoy the scenary and the easy ride on their ATVs in this area. If you are riding your ATV in the early morning hours you are likely to see the local wildlife residents watching you!
