If you're a little bored with riding your ATV on the forest trails and mud holes don't hold the same appeal for you, and you want some new terrain to ride your ATV on, check out Dumont Dunes in Barstow California. Dumont Dunes doesn't get a lot of traffic, as it is located in a more remote location. If you haven't had experience driving your ATV on sandy terrain, you'll find it is a totally different navigation experience than any other terrain you've had a chance to have your wheels on.
If you have kids along for the ride that are too little to ride on an ATV, they can have a blast zooming down the sandy dunes with a snow saucer or snow board. There are no amenities available here. Bring everything you need with you on your ATV ride. Bring all your food, water and regular camping equipment. If you are planning on cooking out, bring materials to build a fire as well as there are no trees in the area to get wood from.
The elevation here varies from 700 feet, at the river, to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill. Permits are required to ride at this area. The white sands make for a lot of fun on your ATV and with the scenic, steep volcanic hills in the background, the Dumont Dunes is a great place to spend a weekend with your family and friends riding your ATVs.
