The Mojave Desert has a little jewel located within that has some great ATVing. The El Mirage Dry Lake Recreational Area has a great ATVing experience and there are areas for both beginning ATVers as well as experienced ATV riders. This area is over 24,000-acres and is a very popular destination.
The diverse terrain and quick weather changes will keep you on your toes. It's not unusual for the summer temperatures to reach 120-degrees and the nighttime temperatures to drop quickly. It can be very cold at night so bring along extra clothing to layer for nighttime. Also, fast-moving, powerful thunderstorms are not uncommon in the summertime. If you see a storm approaching, take cover, as lightning is a possibility. The storms usually pass by very rapidly and you can get back to riding your ATV normally within a short period of time.
This area has flat lakebed riding, mountainous areas to climb on your ATV and all combined with a beautiful view and an abundance of wildlife. These are multi-use trails and you will encounter other adventurers such as other ATVers, motorcyclists, and aircraft enthusiasts flock to try out the rolling hills and diverse terrain.
Get a map and plan your ride before you come tackle this area. Certain areas are bordered by private land, be sure you have permission before you ride your ATV on anyone's private land. Stay on the trails at all times and you will avoid a possible confrontation. This is a fun ATV area with a little something for everyone. Enjoy your next outing to the El Mirage Dry Lake on your ATV!
