If you are new to the sport of ATVing or you recently bought someone their first ATV, Red and White Mountain Road in Colorado, is a wonderful place for new riders to get their feet dirty and begin enjoying the sport of ATVing.
First of all, teach your beginner rider to do their pre-ride check. Giving your ATV the once over now, even a new ATV, is always a good idea. It will all but eliminate problems out on the ATV trail that can leave you stranded.
The scenary in this area is beautiful. There are a few different times of terrain that new ATVers can enjoy learning to maneuver their ATVs on graded roads, wash-boarded road and dirt/gravel. ALl of them require a little bit different handling skills so make sure you have an experienced ATVer to show you the ropes for handling your machine on these different types of roads and trails.
You can get to this road by traveling west(from Vail) on North Frontage road for 1 mile. There will be a sign on the right side of the road marked "Piney Lake/Red Sandstone Road". Turn right at the sign. At 3/10 of a mile from the turn-off, follow the road to the right as it makes a hairpin turn and continues up the mountain. At 6/10 of a mile from the turn-off, you'll see a sign for Piney River Ranch at the beginning of a dirt road. Follow this main road. At 5 miles from the start of the dirt road, you'll see a large meadow and take a left. Continue down the road until you reach a "Y". Follow the right fork and you are located on the Red and White Road.
This is also good experience for a new ATVer to learn how to be courteous of other traffic that might be encountered on trail systems. This riding area is shared by bikers and hikers. Learn proper etiquette and let hikers go past, otherwise your ATV can wind up spraying them with debris, not a great way to make a new friend!
This is a wonderful way to spend a day with a new ATVer learning the fun of ATV riding at this area. Visit Red and White Mountain in Colorado for your next ATV ride.
