Get your child the right size ATV. For kids under the age of 12 the ATV you purchase should be under 70cc. ATVs that are in the range of 70cc to 90cc are most appropriate for children ages 12 to 16. Shifting is difficult for many kids to get the hang of at first, so it is a good idea to get an automatic ATV for your kid to learn to ride, so they don't have bother with shifting gears when they're just starting out riding their ATVs.
ATV safety classes are fantastic for kids to get a jumpstart on riding their ATVs. As every parent knows, your kids will take advice from someone they don't even know and ignore their parent saying the same thing. Sign your child up for an ATV safety-riding course. They will learn safe maneuvering and safety tips for every type of riding. Additionally, they will receive a certificate of completion they will need to show when riding on most federally managed lands (like National Forests).
