A 4-wheeler is an ATV. ATV stands for all-terrain vehicle and it is a sporting vehicle that is primarily used for off-road activities. ATVs can be a lot of fun for the aficionado, but a few safety precautions are necessary to prevent accidents and injuries.|
The single most important piece of safety equipment a rider can have is a helmet. All helmets are not the same and it is important to use a DOT or Snell approved helmet that is made for 4-wheelers. Another concern is goggles. Protect your eyes and make it a priority. The drop down visor on your 4-wheeler helmet isn't enough to stop debris from getting in your eyes.
Boots and gloves are also very important. A good pair of riding gloves will help eliminate fatigue from gripping the handle bars and a good pair of boots will protect your legs from getting scratched by branches and hit by flying rocks that got kicked up by another 4-wheeler.
The ATV Safety Institute offers training courses for proper riding techniques for 4-wheelers throughout the United States. They have over 1,500 licensed instructors and, at any given time, there are more than two hundred courses given per week.
Riding a 4-wheeler can be a world of fun. A little planning and preventive action like wearing your safety gear and taking riding courses can prevent accidents and injuries by being properly equipped and trained.
