Located in Central Virginia, South Pedlar is one of the best maintained and busy 4-wheeler trail systems in the state. The riding area is managed by the Glenwood/Pedlar ranger district of Virginia.
There are nearly 19 miles of 4-wheeler trails to ride and even a good number of hills and straightaways for the people who are experienced and love to catch a little air on their 4-wheelers, this is the place to do it.
There is a large variety of terrains to ride at South Pedlar. If you love the challenge of climbing hills, you will find it here. Also you will find hard packed trail, muddy areas, descents and small obstacles to take your 4-wheeler over.
South Pedlar has no posted speed limits on the trails, but common sense will tell you to keep it down on the curves and areas that you can't see ahead of yourself. The main riding loop on the South Pedlar system is comprised of an 11-mile loop. From the Rattlesnake trailhead parking lot off Forest Road 319, the 0.6-mile Rattlesnake Trail intersects the south end of the South Pedlar loop. Once on the trail, go right and you will quickly encounter a series of seven nicely graded down hills leading to switchbacks, some with high-difficulty turns which are followed by some easy hill climbing and low down hills.
If you're looking for more of a challenge on your 4-wheeler, take on Otter Trail which passes through a large area of shallow water and Piney Trail which is just steep and difficult - both of these trails are rated most difficult.
