If you live in or are going to be, in the Aspen, Colorado area, bring your 4-wheeler and head out to Italian Creek Road with your friends and get ready for a fun and challenging ride.
The trail is densely foliaged and the trail itself is rated as intermediate to difficult. If you're new to 4-wheeling or you haven't been riding your 4-wheeler for very long, save this trail for a time when you have a little more experience handling your 4-wheeler. If you are an experienced 4-wheeler, you will love this trail. Not only is the scenary beautiful, but you will encounter a lot of technical riding challenges along the 4-wheeler trail.
The trailhead is a large open area where you can also camp. The trail then leads to a narrow trail that winds through the forest. If you don't normally wear long sleeves when you ride, this trail will encourage you to start. Slapping branches do not feel good on bare arms. Make sure along with your helmet and goggles, you're wearing heavy pants and a heavy shirt or even better, a jersey and pants made specifically for riding your 4-wheeler.
There is a gated area just past the wooded section of this trail. There will be a gate at this section. If you decide to cross through, close the gate behind you. You should leave no trace of your 4-wheeler ride except happy memories!
An interesting note about this area is you will notice a lot of white rocks as you ride your 4-wheeler on the trail, they are from glaciers that carved out the valley. The rocks were trapped in ice at the higher elevations and as the glaciers melted and cut in forming the valley, the rocks were dropped along the way.
Towards the end of this trail, you will be on open range terrain and you might encounter cattle. Follow basic safety rules and don't scare or get too near the cattle. This is a fun 4-wheeler trail that offers climbs, narrow trails, open areas and rangeland to ride your 4-wheeler upon.
