At around 10 miles, the Government Trail is a good run for the 4-wheeler rider of moderate skill level.
The trail opens during the summer and closes during the winter, and it is home to many non 4-wheeler activities from hiking to motorcycling. The 4-wheeler trail begins at Maroon Creek and from there you tread across an old-fashioned wooden bridge and head into some steep terrain which will force you to climb upwards.
This area is the only really challenging part of this 4-wheeler trail. After the steep climb, the rest of this trail should be pretty smooth for the average 4-wheeler rider and the trail is rated as "easy". From there you will guide your 4-wheeler though some luscious scenery that includes beautiful aspen, thick pines, and picturesque meadows full of flowers during the early part of the riding season. Remember that this 4-wheeler trail isn't a loop, so it would be a good idea to get access to a car shuttle.
To get to the Government Trail, take Highway 82 for half a mile west of Aspen and then take a left into Maroon Creek road. Take a right once on the road and keep going until you get to Iselin Park. The 4-wheeler trail will be visible on the right in the back of the tennis court.
When you ride your 4-wheeler in this area, always remember the standards of Treadlightly and leave this trail nice for the next group of riders.
