Washington State has some great riding destinations and for 4-wheeler residents of Thurston County, Thurston County ORV Park was a local treat. It was opened in 1979 and located on the north edge of capitol State Forest, on highway 8. This was a 155-acre site for the enjoyment of 4-wheeling enthusiasts.
Thurston had 5 miles of trail, 4-wheeler and OHV; a racetrack and grandstands, camping area and a keeper's home on site. There were organized ride events throughout the season.
Unfortunately, Thurston County ORV Park closed down in 2002 due to budget problems the county was facing. This is a sad fate for such a well-put together place for 4-wheeler use. The park was transferred to Grays Harbor County and reopened under the name of Straddleline ORV Park.
The hours it is open for 4-wheeling is from Thursday through Monday from 8AM until dusk. Riding fees are a flat $10 per rider per day and camping is available for a flat fee of $15 per campsite. There is a sewage dump, reserve shelter and even a meeting hall that can be reserved if you want to hold a meeting or special gathering with your group.
If you're in the Grays Harbor County area, make Straddleline ORV Park a must ride for your next 4-wheeler outing!
