What could be more fun than riding your 4-wheeler at Sand Wash Basin? Tucked into the northwest Moffat County region of Colorado, near Maybell, this prime set of 4-wheeler trails is easy to reach from Highway 318. Modern day cowboys can saddle up their 4-wheelers and ride the trails because Sand Wash Basin is chock full of dirt roads just begging you to rev up your 4-wheeler and set off into the wilderness.
Just be careful to watch the weather though. This area can become a total mud hole when it rains. If you love "muddin'" on your 4-wheeler, you'll love this area all year round.
There's nothing like the view from your 4-wheeler as you travel through rolling sagebrush covered hills, and amazing sandstone canyons. Imagine breathing the pristine air as you and your 4-wheeler pause for a moment on a mountain peak. Truly, this is some of the greatest country you'll ever cover on an 4-wheeler. The Sand Wash Basin 4-wheeler trails area is home to a bounty of wildlife. While riding your 4-wheeler you'll have the opportunity to see large herds of elk, deer, wild horses and prong horn antelope, as well as mountain lions, bears, and bald eagles.
And if you're 4-wheeler riding at Sand Wash in the month of September or October, you may want to make a stop at the Annual Golden Leaf Festival held between the end of September and the first week of October. Sand Wash Basin is truly an 4-wheeler rider's paradise. You can spend your days on your 4-wheeler, then spend the evenings sitting around the campfire with your friends at the Maybell Park Campgrounds. This campground offers 4-wheeler riders a restaurant, general store, and most importantly, showers so you can wash off that dirt from the 4-wheeler trail. The campground is open from May 1 to November 15 with 45 campsites available.
