Louisiana has a good number of great riding locations that will be great for both beginning skill level riders as well as expert. With the diverse types of terrain found around the State of Louisiana, there really is something for everyone. Some areas in Louisiana are so remote, having a 4-wheeler to navigate to a particular location is almost a necessity.
If you're looking for a family friendly place to ride your 4-wheelers, You can't go wrong with Catahoula Recreation on Sicily Island. They have 320 acres of dips and sand hills. There is also a smooth 1000 foot sand drag, many mud pits, and family trails so the kids can ride their 4-wheelers too, but under adult supervision. Atchafalaya Basin Floodway System offers up some fun 4-wheeler riding. Louisiana has a lot of low lands so you can expect to encounter a lot of mud on this 595,000 acre area. There is a lot of dense forest consisting mostly of hardwoods and cypress and Louisiana is known for it's bayous. The trails are closed after heavy rains due to certain flooding but otherwise provide a great 4-wheeler ride.
If people have jokingly mentioned you might meet an alligator while you're 4-wheeling, although they are abundant in most bayou areas, they are also notoriously shy and dislike people and loud noises. The Kisatchie National Forest is the only national forest in the Pelican State. Kisatchie has over 100 miles of trails to ride your 4-wheeler on and over 40 developed recreation sites. You will be sharing these narrow trails with other traffic from hikers to horseback riders so be aware and drive your 4-wheeler defensively. None of the trails present any great degrees of difficulty and are fantastic for beginning 4-wheeler riders to gain their confidence.
