The trails at Chegwatana State Forest is a wonderful place to test your 4-wheeler skills. If coming from Pine City go 4 miles Northeast on county road 9, then go 9 miles east on county road 10 till you come to the Chengwatana Forest 4-wheeler parking lot. It is open all year except for some seasonal closings due to bad weather that will be posted at the trailhead when this occurs.
These 4-wheeler trails are over 11 miles long and are made for the more experienced 4-wheeler rider. These 4-wheeler trails can get very difficult, so watching your speed will be a priority. This place has everything to challenge you on your 4-wheeler such as upland islands that are surrounded by marsh and brush. There are three rivers that flow right through this 4-wheeler riding area, so not only will you get the rough terrain, deep slopes, and twists and turns, but there will be water crossings and mud, lots of mud. If you love to get down and dirty when you ride your 4-wheeler, you'll love this trail.
This brings us to the equipment that you must have in order to have a safe 4-wheeler run. A helmet is the most important protection for you. With all the mud and debris that will spray on you, goggles, gloves and boots are also smart. A 4-wheeler outfit is the best choice, however, a long sleeve shirt and protective pants will do the trick while out 4-wheeler riding. Chegwatana is a great ride on you 4-wheeler waiting to be had!
