4-Wheeling at the Land Between the Lakes and Turkey Bay

Turkey Bay or Land Between the Lakes, is a great place to go 4-wheeler riding when you're looking for a little more than the average 4-wheeler ride, due to it's changing terrain and rugged slopes. It is located in the neck between Kentucky Lake to the west and Lake Barkley to the east. The Southern entrance, located in Tennessee, brings you into the park on a road simply called "The Trace." If coming from the north toward Kentucky, you will find lots of side roads that lead to the lake access.

Turkey Bay was the first federally designated contained area for 4-wheeler riding. It is a 2500-acre paradise, full of history and wildlife. There is even a 700-acre nature station, where you can see red wolves, wild turkeys, eagles, and even a herd of bison and elk.

You are allowed to camp inside Turkey Bay as long as you possess the appropriate permits. One to three day permits are $15. After a great day of 4-wheeler riding, you can camp out at the water's edge. They also will supply you with a map that details the whole area 4-wheeler trails and all. The camping fees are various amounts, depending what you are looking for the basic camp site starts at $8 a night.

If you are a novice 4-wheeler rider, there are great trails that are wider, well marked and easy to follow. For the experienced 4-wheeler rider, you can venture off the main trails and challenge the hills and narrow tree filled areas as trailblazing is allowed. This is a wonderful place to spend the weekend, or even the whole week with your friends and your 4-wheelers.
