Located in Texas, Somerville Lake has a great little 4-wheeler area for you to explore. The area is undeveloped, very eroded and you will find small pools of water in the lower lying areas (make sure you have someone that can tow your 4-wheeler in case you get stuck). 4-wheeler riders are allowed to ride anywhere within the 4-wheeler area, there are no marked trails to follow. The 4-wheeler area is open all year around and no permit is required. This is a great place to just cut loose and ride around on your 4-wheeler.
For such a small area, Somerville has a lot of challenges for the more experienced 4-wheeler rider. Beginners should stick to the paths closest to the trail head as it is a more open area and the trails are easier, the terrain is eroded further into the 4-wheeler trails and could be more challenging than some 4-wheeler riders would like. Always get a map and see the most current trails so you know what to expect on your 4-wheeler ride.
Only 3 and 4 wheel 4-wheelers are allowed on these trails along with motorcycles. If your 4-wheeler won't fit through the pipe rail fence at the entrance of the 4-wheeler trail, you simply can not ride it there. Since you're sharing these trails with other riders and the trails are not clearly marked, do exercise caution. This 4-wheeler area is only open from dawn until dusk and there is no camping allowed.
