The large amount of variety that North Dakota offers more or less guarantees that you will find just about any type of 4-wheeler trail in the state. From beautiful canyon views to muddy forest trails, the state of North Dakota has something for just about every 4-wheeler rider.
In order to ride your 4-wheeler in North Dakota you must be registered with a motor vehicle registration agency, except in some authorized events where registration is not mandatory. Another requirement that the state has put forth is that your 4-wheeler has to be somewhat manufactured after October 2001. You are not allowed to ride 4-wheeler's that were purchased before 12/31/03 in North Dakota. The maximum weight allowed for an 4-wheeler in North Dakota is 1,000 pounds which will cover almost any 4-wheeler.
The maximum width allowed in the state is 50 inches, which is about average. The riding ages for children are 12-15, and they must have a safety certificate and must be supervised at all times. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to ride 4-wheelers in the state, and kids who are 16 can ride alone as long as they have their safety certificate. All riders must wear minimum safety gear including a DOT approved helmet, goggles and gloves at all times when operating their 4-wheelers.
