South Carolina has a little something for everyone's ATV riding style. If you like sand, you'll find it in abundance on the coast; if you enjoy riding your 4-wheeler through some lush and densely forested areas, you can find that type of terrain to ride as well on your 4-wheeler.
In order to ride your 4-wheeler legally in the State of South Carolina you do not have to register your 4-wheeler with the state and there is no minimum age for riding a 4-wheeler. If you are going to be riding on any federally managed lands, such at State or National Forests, you must get a riding permit that is prominently displayed and your brakes and headlights must be in good working condition.
Also, you must wear a helmet and eye protection in the form of safety goggles whenever you are riding your 4-wheeler. A licensed adult must accompany any 4-wheeler riders under the age of 16-years of age, also on a 4-wheeler in the National Forest areas such as The Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests, which feature 4 off-highway vehicle (OHV) trails covering more than 86 miles of riding opportunities.
The 4-wheeler trails are closed frequently and new riding trails are opened, so call ahead to make sure the area you want to ride is open and available.
South Carolina offers up some great 4-wheeler riding fun whether you're a resident or just visiting on vacation. Take full advantage of all the trail riding fun this state has to offer all year round!
