Massachusetts has a lot of strict legislation in place regarding 4-wheeler riding. The Western Massachusetts ATV Association is a very active and fun loving group of 4-wheeler aficionados who are dedicated to promoting the 4-wheeler sport in a positive light. 4-wheeling enthusiasts get a bad rap from the few irresponsible riders that don't follow good patterns of riding such as riding carefully and staying on the designated 4-wheeler trails.
This is a very active club with many events throughout the year. One of this past year's highlights was Family Day, where riders met to picnic and enjoy two days of perfect weather for 4-wheeler riding on the trails. The club also held a Poker Run, with terrific prizes for the winners donated by various sponsors. The club even raffled off a new Polaris Sportman 400 4-wheeler to raise money to support the ongoing activities of the 4-wheeler club.
The Western Massachusetts ATV Association, as part of the Berkshire Trails Council, has made a commitment to provide service hours to help maintain 4-wheeler trails in the five Western Massachusetts State Forests. Without this dedicated effort, the trails would likely be closed to off road riding enthusiasts. However, just because it's work doesn't mean it can't be fun, and volunteers also get to enjoy a lunch, and a poker run too. This all makes for a very satisfying day on the trails. The club encourages non-members to come participate in this activity as well, this is a great way to let potential members see how a proactive 4-wheeler group works to help keep the trails open and maintained.
