If you're looking for the feather in your 4-wheeler cap of hard trails to ride in Oregon, take on the Index Wall Overlook Trail. This is a very challenging ride. At only 3.2 miles it isn't a very big trail but it has more obstacles to overcome on your 4-wheeler than you will encounter on much longer 4-wheeler trails. It's not uncommon for this trail to take an entire day to cover on your 4-wheeler.
In order to ride this challenger, make sure you have your 4-wheeler permit in a clearly visible place and as with all Oregon trails, make sure to follow the rule of thumb, "If you bring it in, take it out with you and leave nothing behind but tire tracks." Now are you ready for a wild ride in your 4-wheeler? This is a trail that needs a more than a little preparation to insure your 4-wheeler ride is a positive experience. There are several water traps along this 4-wheeler trail that can lead to frustration if you don't do a little advance planning. If you plan this out and know what you're facing on this 4-wheeler trail, you're in for a truly challenging and skill testing experience for you and your 4-wheeler.
There is a lot of mud on this 4-wheeler trail as well, best not to try the trail right after a rain. Wait a day or so before taking this one on with your 4-wheeler.
After the initial entrance into the 4-wheeler trail, the rest of the trail features a lot of dips and turns that will test your skill levels but nothing harder than the beginning of the 4-wheeler trail ride. Lots of dense foliage, dips, and hill but the real treat comes at the end of the 4-wheeler trail,as there is an awesome view over a 350-foot cliff that overlooks the town of Index. The ride down the other side is full of lots of dips but nothing as challenging as the climb up this trail.
