ATVing stories we laugh over

Funny stories, horrific stories, dump stories and totally baffling ones….if you’ve been off-roading for some time, you might have a whole library of them all recorded down for future references. Sort of like, things NOT TO DO and stories you will secretly whisper to your kids when they’re ready to take on their own ATVs. Well, where’s the fun when there’s no story to tell….it would’ve been boring all the way, wouldn’t it?

We’ve had tons of fun riding our ATVs on all kinds of terrains, tracks and trails. Where there’s a trail, we head over and put it to ourselves to have as much fun as we possibly can. The result is a lot of hilarious things; most of them are dumb things we did that gave others a hearty roar of laughter. Even when one of us got into trouble, got stuck or got toppled over by a baby rabbit, in hindsight, it was hilarious!

I’ll start the ball rolling by sharing two of them here with you but because of the how dumb in nature these stories are, the people would remain nameless or re-named to protect their identity. You know, just in case an old girlfriend finds this blog and use it against them. Who knows?

Muddied Up
You know how you’re supposed to go over a mud puddle? Slowly, at an angle, revv it up a little to let the tires find gripping and then throttle it out. A newbie friend of mine who managed to save up enough money to buy a used Polaris from his cousin decided to ride a muddy trail with us. Instead of approaching the muddy bank slowly, from 10 feet away, he revs the engine up and go at it full speed! Yeah, with that said, you can imagine the kind of mayhem his dumb antic created. Mud all over the place. Everyone screaming for him to stop. Lots of cussing and swearing. And then the ATV sinks head first into the mud! And the worst thing was that instead of sitting there keeping his engine running low, he shuts off the engine of his ATV and got off to join us…in watching his ATV sink even deeper into the mud and filling his ATV with mud water!

Overall, it was funny and fun. But for the poor guy had to have major repair work done to his mud-filled ATV engine. He wasn’t laughing then but now, he is.

There’s sand in my eyes
I have a seven-year-old nephew who is really good on his 50cc ATV. His parents are, like, literally pros in the ATV riding circuit and have been riding ATV all over the country for more than a decade. So, to this kid, ATV riding is part of the family, you know. Summer holidays, ATVing. Winter time, snowboarding or snowmobile riding.

I was (still am) really proud of this young tyke, so, boasted a lot in front of ATV friends. One time, we were heading out to a construction site to take a look at some engineering stuff and would be passing by his usual training area. We were just in time to catch him in action….except that on rounding a curve on the track, it was like he was stoned or something. He kept driving straight at an alarming speed heading towards the tires surrounding the track and wham! I was shell-shocked! Although physically uninjured, my nephew climbed out of the pile of tires sheepishly. I went like “What happened there? You just, like, headed straight for those tires!” My friends were sniggering away in the back, I know, although they hid well away from me and my nephew.

“There was sand in my eyes!” he complained.

As valid as the excuse was, it didn’t stop those guys from teasing me about my boasting and how the show-off attempt had gone awry. Ah well, as long as we’re having some fun, it’ll be someone else next time. Hey, I didn’t hide the fact that this ATV blunder was mine and did not re-name myself. Give me THAT much credit, will ya?
