Locust Stake ORV Area, Georgia

Written by Raceway ATV - the #1 kids Kazuma ATV dealer
Locust Stake ORV Area, Georgia Updated: Monday, 09 July 2007

Locust Stake ORV Area, Georgia

Although there are many fantastic ATV riding places in Georgia, one of the best and is our personal favorite is the Locust Stake ORV area in Georgia. We used to take our families there with toddlers in tow to this ATV riding spot and spend a couple of days just camping out and riding around. if you’re looking for a great and diversified ATV riding trail in Georgia, you can find it in Locust Stake ORV Area.

The Locust Stake ORV Area is in the Chattooga Ranger district. The reason why it’s one of the pretties and most scenic ATV trail is because this ATV trail is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Therefore, you can be sure that the scenery found there is absolutely nothing short of stunning. As at the point of publication, the Locust Stake ORV area is the largest riding area to ride in Georgia. There is abot 17 miles of ATV trails for you and family to ride on and the level of difficulty of the ATV trail is different in the many parts of the trail. It can be extremely easy and straight-forward at some points and then on others, the young ones and the beginners may need help getting over obstacles. The difficult parts of this ATV trail are at the strands of Georgia Pine and a superb railroad trestle. Difficult but nothing a little help can’t do.

One of the best parts of riding this ATV trail is when you come to The North Fork Trestle. It is an awe-inspiring sight, make no mistake about it! Looming up to almost 1,400 feet supported by 10 200 feet concrete piers, you can’t resist snapping away at the scenery. It is definitely a very memorable sight during tour ride at this ATV trail.

The Locust Stake ORV trail is open all year round except for winter months (first three months of the year) in an effort to protect the forest and prevent excessive damage to the ATV trail. The Georgia Recreational Trail Riders Association works closely with the US Forest Service to preserve and maintain the ATV trails and the surround natural forest. All year long, you’ll see numerous volunteers help maintain the place. The management of the ATV trail strongly encourages those who wish to keep this ATV trail open to come forward and extent their help. In fact, we think that this would make an incredible family outing as well…riding and helping out at the ATV trail. Don’t think that the kids won’t like it; we see a lot of kids and youth helping out at this ATV trail all the time. If there’s one thing you have to worry about, it’s the absence of restrooms. And the other negative point is that there is no camping ground; but there is affordable lodging available in nearby towns, especially in Cornelia.

To ride the Locust Stake ORV Area, there’s a $5 one day fee or the $25 season pass. If you’re game for some good ATV riding in Georgia, here’s how to get there. First, take the Georgia Highway 365 from Cornelia. Go along the highway for about 10 miles or so. Soon, you’ll come to Rock Road on the left, turn left. Travel on for a little bit more, keep to the road and you’ll soon hit a gravel road on the right side which is…yes, Locust Stake road. Turn onto the road, drive about one half mile more and you can park and unload.

For more information about this amazingly scenic Georgia ATV trail, write to the Chattooga Ranger District at 200 Highway 197 North, PO Box 1980, Clarkesville, GA 30523, call them at (706) 754-6221 or better yet, visit their website for more information by logging on to https://www.fs.fed.us/conf/rec/orv_info.htm
